Sights in Almaty

Almaty is a big city, but there are only few sights and even few things to do. Most people use the city as hub for exploring the mountains (Tien Chan).
The city structure is very wide. You can walk around, but if you're from a western country, transportation by bus or tram seems to be very cheap. So you can walk and then use a bus or tram. The system of buses and trams is a little bit difficult to understand, so you should ask and/or try.
Two things I would suggest for visiting in Almaty. First the colorful old wooden church at park Panfilovzev and second the big green market at Zhibek Zholy and ul. Puschkina.
