Ab 58 Dollar mit Frühstück. Das Vorzeigehotel der Stadt bis Mitte der 90er Jahre, erdbebensicheres Hochhaus aus den 70er Jahren mit tollem Blick auf die Berge und Panoramarestaurant in der obersten Etage, zentrale Lage, modernisiert.

The city structure is very wide. You can walk around, but if you're from a western country, transportation by bus or tram seems to be very cheap. So you can walk and then use a bus or tram. The system of buses and trams is a little bit difficult to understand, so you should ask and/or try.
Two things I would suggest for visiting in Almaty. First the colorful old wooden church at park Panfilovzev and second the big green market at Zhibek Zholy and ul. Puschkina.

In Almaty kommt man meist mit dem Flugzeug an. Der Flughafen ist etwas ausserhalb und recht ueberschaubar. Die Fluege aus Europa kommen meist mitten in der Nacht an. Wenn man die Moeglichkeit hat sollte man sich abholen lassen (z. B. die Hotels machen das). Sonst Bus z. B. 38 und 79 fahren ins Zentrum. Oder mit dem Taxi, aber da gibt es unterschiedliche Geschichten. Der Preis ist wohl 1000 Tenge, nachts etwas mehr (ich hab zum Flughafen frueh um 6 1500 bezahlt, was ok ist, der Typ hat auch noch den Rucksack rumgeschleppt und nach dem Eingang fuer den Flug gefragt - obwohl es nur 2 gibt ;-)). Es wird meist versucht, Auslaendern das doppelte abzunehmen...
Hotel sollte man unbedingt vorher buchen, es gibt keine zentrale Anlaufstelle oder Touriinfo oder so.
