Now Google Maps
Why not Google Maps? Yes. This is a legitimate question, asked by Jens. So I tried Google Maps too and it was also quite easy. It's a much more better look than the vector lookalike of map24 and no Java has to be loaded, but the address search is not so easy and fault-tolerant as it was when I used map24 first.
So I guess I have to read some tutorials first...
Google Maps are very fine - if there are some for the country! So if you are looking for a place outside of europe and north america or even in former sovjet and yugoslavian countries (most of east europe is uncovered too), you will find nothing.
Maybe the solution is to mix map24 and google, depending on the country. But this is some more work...
Experimental - travellerguide.net provides maps
![]() |
For now I use only the provided maps for europe. You will also find the link on a page for places in other continents, but it wont work and produce some bad results.
Another problem is that I use only an easy search function, which searches the geocoordinates by the name of the place. That might also produce some wrong matches, because the script doesn't evaluate the returned values and only forwards to the first match...
Has someone some experiences with google maps? This is that I want to try next...
Update Today I tried a little with the South America maps provided by map24. The experience I had was not so good as I had with the European ones. Matching places works fine, but the resolution of the maps was unconvincible...

No. It isn't.

List of airlines which are banned by the EU
The European Union has published a list of air carriers of which all operations are subject to a ban or operational restrictions within the community.

First choose the country, then write your text.
We got some new entries here. At this place I don't want a discussion of quality and what spam is and what it isn't. And what people would like to tell and what they are able to tell. No, there is another problem. I could not imagine that this might be the next problem in using the alotta framework for travellerguide. Maybe it is more a problem of telling the people the concept and the meaning of this site. Maybe it is not. So guys, if you don't add your entry on the italy section of travellerguide, it wont appear on the italy section. Got it?
I had a little talk with Steffen about Blogs and stuff like that on wednesday, and I decided to change some things in the behaviour of this site.
- I will disable the ability to add entries to the part "home" for users without admin state on "home".
- I will add a listbox field to the new entry function to enable to choose a country first. This might be a little bit tricky, because the city (places) list has to be reloaded after every change of the country.
So we will see.
Uh. I forgot. For all the crowd, that wants to contact us via mail, we've got a new email address:
travellerguide.net [at] googlemail [dot] com
And: Thanks to Susanna for helping to correct my little english.
Some new categories...
Some people asked me, how they could choose "General" as category for their entry. Ok, I thought that was clear enought, but in this case I was at fault. So I decided to extend the categories. I put some things in the database, like "Sports", "What to do" or "How to get there". Now it is time to think about the categories and how to deal with them. Maybe some kind of summary page for each of them? Let's see what will happen...
If you want to see how it works, you should have a look at the Hungary or Italy page (where I tried something with it).
Maybe I will add a category "General" and change the Link to "Show all"... We'll see.
New Style Part 3
Thanx also to Steffen for giving some additional help on making the look of the guide a little bit more fresh and smooth... we keep on trying...
I added a background image to the wrapper. The content box appears now all white, even if it is not filled entirely. But it works only with browsers with Gecko engine, I guess. Because Gecko browsers add the padding to the width and IE doesn't, the right grey line of the content box is not visible with IE.
And... dsf: the h3-tag is bold, because there is also a link (a-tag)... and a-tag has been defined font-weight: bold;
