Hyvärilä Camping

Very nice campsite. They have an ADAC 2006 campsite sticker on the wall of their office.
Very spacy, the public sauna is open on tuesdays, thursdays and saturdays from 6 - 9 p.m.
Nice, big and clean facilities. Close to a golf course, this should be one of the best golf course in Finland.
You should stay some days there, because there are many things to do and to see. You can walk on some hiking trail. Very close to Bomba (1,5 km).
There are some ski trails for winter. But close to the campsite is also a summer jump, there some crazy finish guys do some ski jumping into the water (they call it "freestyle")...
Costs 13 EUR for 2 persons and 1 tent. Very good value! Greetings to the guys from ADAC. Nice choice.

Savonlinna Camping Vuohimäki

The Savonlinna camping site is situated about 4 km in the northwest of the towncenter. Follow road 14 direction Mikkeli and you will see the signs, which will guide you to the place.
This camping site is surrounded by beautiful nature. It is on a wide area. The places for tents are in the wood, so it is difficult to find a plane place...
It costs 12 EUR for the place plus 4 EUR p.P. So it is 20 EUR for two persons and one tent. This is a little bit more pricy than the average that we experienced in Finland.
But there is public sauna (daily between 4 and 6 p.m.) included in this price. This sauna is quite spacy and close to the nice lake.

Introduction to Finland from the World Factbook

Save this article to your travelbook

Finland was a province and then a grand duchy under Sweden from the 12th to the 19th centuries and an autonomous grand duchy of Russia after 1809. It won its complete independence in 1917. During World War II, it was able to successfully defend its freedom and resist invasions by the Soviet Union - albeit with some loss of territory. In the subsequent half century, the Finns made a remarkable transformation from a farm/forest economy to a diversified modern industrial economy; per capita income is now on par with Western Europe. As a member of the European Union, Finland was the only Nordic state to join the euro system at its initiation in January 1999.

Ferries to Scandinavia

How to get there

Save this article to your travelbook

By plane:
There are some reasonable priced flights operated by Finnair or Estonian Air from Germany to Helsinki.

By car:
There is one route via Russia (about 3000 km coming from Germany) and another route via Sweden.

By ferry:
Superfast ferries has a route from Rostock to Hanko. You should book some weeks in advance, because in summer they are often fully booked.
There are many ferries going from Sweden to Finland. The route in the north from Umea to Vaasa is operated by RG Line.

Another interesting possibility is to go to Tallin (cheap flights by EasyJet or Estonian Air) and from there by ferry (1,5 h) to Helsinki.
